Wishing all of you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our home to yours!

And I will leave you with a picture of my final finish for 2008 as well as a beloved passage of scripture that, for me, is the reason we celebrate Christmas.

Little House Needleworks Gingerbread Trio

Little House Needleworks Gingerbread Trio

Luke 2:8-14 (NIV)

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

I wish you peace, health, and happiness in the upcoming year.

More Gingerbread Trio December 17, 2008

Well, actually the Gingerbread Trio is a solo act at the moment. I finished “Ginger” last night and I started on “Cinnamon” today. 🙂 I am really enjoying this project. It is fun to stitch. I h0pe to have it and Peppermint Twist finished before Christmas. I am hoping that the threads I need for PT will come in tomorrow’s mail.

We had another snow day here today, which means we were all off from work and out of school. 🙂 I took the opportunity to finish most of my Christmas shopping this afternoon. I have a couple of odds and ends to finish and then I will be completely done. Which I am glad that it will be finished before Christmas break, but wish that I had finished earlier in the month. I find Christmas shopping to be very stressful, and very seldom do I really enjoy it. I like to see everyone receive their gifts however. Just do not enjoy the hustle and bustle and the search… This year, we seem to be looking for the most popular items out there and have hit dead ends in several areas. Most have worked out and we have been able to luck in here and there, but I still have one more thing to try to find. Hopefully my parents will be able to locate it tomorrow while they are shopping.

On a sad note, a dear family friend passed away on Tuesday. We went to the funeral home visitation today and will attend the funeral tomorrow. His name was William. He and his wife kept my son during the day from the time he was born until he started school. He died of pancreatic cancer…such a painful and terrible cancer. The same type of cancer that my grandmother passed away from fifteen years ago. Rest in heavenly peace, William. I appreciate the love and care that you showed my son for so many years.

Happy Dance and Startitus

I finished Lizzie Kate’s Christmas is Forever kit this week. I really enjoyed stitching this one and was kind of sad to see it end. Hopefully I will get it framed or finished into something by next Christmas.

I have also had a bad case of “startitus” this week. I have started three new projects, and probably would have started more if I had had all the various threads that I needed. I had ordered some stash in the last couple of weeks, and it has been arriving this past week. Everything that I pull out of the mailbox, I want to start immediately. 🙂 I will have several projects to choose from for my New Year’s Day start. This week I started Little House Needlework’s Gingerbread Trio, Blue Ribbon Designs Peppermint Twist, and Praiseworthy Stitches’s Simple Gifts: Love.

Praiseworthy Stitches Simple Gifts: Love

I decided to use basically the same colors with the Simple Gifts sampler but to reverse them, making red the predominant color and the charcoal gray the secondary color. I think I am really going to like the look. I chose to use Belle Soie Sister Scarlet and Noir instead of the recommended threads that the design calls for. I love the Belle Soie silks. I don’t have many, but I love stitching with them. I can easily see this being a new collection/obsession. I have stitched several of the LHN thread packs and a La D Da sampler using them, and they are divine. So smooth to work with.

We had a snow day today. I love winter weather. We got more ice than snow, but it was enough to call school off, and we all spent the day indoors at home. We are off again tomorrow, but I suspect we will go back on Thursday. DH and I (mostly DH) cleaned the playroom and decluttered toys in anticipation of  Christmas. DS played next door at the cousins’  house most of the afternoon. Then the cousins stayed with us while my BIL and SIL went out to a movie to celebrate their anniversary. Needless to say, they all had a great time. Since I can sleep in tomorrow, I think I will stay up until the wee hours, watching TV and working on the Gingerbread Trio some more.

Until next time….

Deck the Halls December 8, 2008

I have been on a Christmas stitching frenzy. 🙂 I kitted a bunch of Christmas projects around Thanksgiving time and put them in one of my project totes in ziploc bags. I have been adding projects that I have ordered or that I have printed off of the internet. I have been working out of this box and have finished quite a few things. I have been impressed by how much I have gotten done. It is very motivating to finish a quick project in a couple of days. I think I will put more small projects in my screaming rotation in the coming year since it is so gratifying to see them stitched and finished quickly.  I also find the Let’s Stitch blog very motivating as well. There is a lot of talented and supportive stitchers there…a pleasant place to be. 🙂

Here are some of my recent Christmas-sy finishes…

I think the Emmanuel ornament is so cute! It is a freebie offered by Paulette Stewart on her blog Plum Street Samplers. I have recently “discovered” her designs and I love them. 🙂 I have a feeling that her Christmas Tea design is going to have to find its way into one of my online carts very soon. 😉

So many Christmas designs to stitch, so little time…

In other news, the little dude had to come home sick from school today. I took him to the pediatrician who said it is something viral and that he should feel better in about three days. He’s had a headache since last night, but does seem to be feeling better tonight.

My dad is doing much better. He is getting around a lot better, much more mobile and able to use his walker much better. It won’t be long until he will be able to put some weight on his foot again, and then a few weeks after that he should be able to return to full weight on the foot and a return to “normal”. I will be so glad for him. I know he is getting tired of having a broken heel and being still.

Only 9 more work days for me and then I will be on Christmas break for 2 weeks. To say I am excited would be an understatement. Christmas is flying this year. Normally, it feels like the time lasts a little longer between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this year it seems to be speeding along. There are so many things I want to do before it gets here, and yet at the same time, we have made a conscious effort to simplify things this year as well. We are trying to focus on the beliefs and traditions that are most important to our family and let go of the excess. We have put out only the decorations that are meaningful and that we really love. We are letting go of some things that we have done in the past because it is not important to us nor does it hold meaning. We are trying to embrace the traditions that we really love. One of those will be attending the Christmas Eve service at our church that begins at 11:00 pm and ends in candle light with Silent Night playing as the clock strikes midnight. It never ceases to bring tears to my eyes and fills me with the true spirit of Christmas. We did not attend last year and I missed that part of the holidays. I missed seeing all the small children that come dressed in their pjs, with half of them asleep in their parents arms by the end of the service. I missed the music and the scripture readings. I have realized by missing last year that this is important to me, so we will be making and effort to attend each year. I want to bake cookies with my son. I enjoy it. We have done this several times and it is one of the things that I enjoy. I used to put pressure on myself to bake several things and to try new things, but have realized that one or two things that we love is great. I really want to take him caroling this year too. This is something that I used to do as a teenager and loved it. I haven’t done it in years, but I think we will try to go with a group this year. It will be fun and as much as he loves to sing, he will enjoy it as well. I want to watch several Christmas movies. Several classics that I have never seen as well as old favorites. I am happy to say that we watched Charlie Brown Christmas tonight. Oh, the memories of my own childhood and the excitement of that cartoon coming on TV. My mother would make a special effort to remember when the holiday shows and movies were coming on and would make them special for us…sometimes with a snack while watching, almost always by watching with us. These are the type of memories that I want to pass on to my son.

More later…
